Our Squalid Century

Our Squalid Century is a six minute dash through an oeuvre, let's call it, that plays better as a quick series of images than it does as a body of work.

These sketches, drawings, and paintings have been arranged and animated here to suggest a coherence of purpose where none exists. These aren't the best of the artist's work, because the best hang in frames in (otherwise) tasteful homes. The artist has no aspiration to hang one day in a museum, except perhaps by the neck, as part of a morbid conceptual project.

Please enjoy Our Squalid Century, if you are so inclined. Loath it if you prefer. Or avoid it altogether. The squalor of the title is not necessarily a metaphor, as is evident from the literal squalor in the occasional live action moments. These paintings not only show squalor, they exist in squalor and to some extent, are squalor! Contrived though it may be, this little movie is an honest reflection of our squalid times!
