What Exactly is This Place?

Strictly speaking, this site is a blog—it is made using Blogger and will occasionally be used for posts in the ordinary blogging sense. Generally speaking, however, the site is not a blog—rather, an online home for specific stories, comics, and short movies.

Since these projects are often enormous, some taking years to complete, the site might at times appear to be dead. It is not. It merely takes very long breaths.

Many works appear here in truncated forms. Such are generally contained within posts, not pages, and usually end with a tongue-in-cheek “the full text is available by appointment only.” In truth, although the presented snippets have been duly fussed-over, the full texts of the works they’re snipped from are so rough they will likely never see the light of day!

And it is worth noting that posting dates here are meaningless. Work continues on both posts and pages all the time. At any given moment, the oldest might actually be the most recent!

Some works appear in their entirety—the poorly-conceived comic Meanwhile Not Far Away on the Moon, for instance, the melancholic prehistoric fantasy A Lost World, or the interactive text adventure Oedipus Nix. The short movie Traces of a Benevolent Face will be available here eventually, but as it is thematically tied to a book yet unpublished (as of January 2026) it will likely be held back for a little while longer.

That book yet unpublished is The Ecstasy of Mrs. Quarterhorse, the fifth book in a somewhat-supernatural series about an imperious lady and her card-reading protégé—the only works that I actually sell. Please give them a look-see if you’d like to read something by the author more polished and a little less silly than most of the other works presented here. While hard work on its own is no guarantee of a book’s quality, speaking for myself as a fussy bedtime reader, if I’m going to commit the end of my day to a novel (let alone a series of novels) I want assurance up front that the author takes my bedtime reading seriously! Slap-dash is for the afternoon, bedtime reading is sacred. The Quarterhorse books, despite their simple stories, sparse casts, and casual narration, are nonetheless serious, carefully constructed works that will reward even the fussiest reader.

Worth noting: despite the titular lady’s name, the Quarterhorse series is not about horses. Five books, zero horses. Oh, no, wait—a horse is mentioned in the fifth book. That book isn’t totally finished yet, so, it’s possible the horse won’t be in the final text. To be safe, let me rephrase my claim. Five books, possibly one horse.

As for this website’s non-Quarterhorse content, I hope you will find at least some portion of it worth your time!

A word on the appearance of this site...

Websites tend to be unnecessarily complicated. This one is not. It is designed to be easily navigated—a home page with a single stack of links to self-contained sub-pages. Websites also tend to be ugly. This one is not, however—! browser/device settings can potentially override this site's intended appearance, leaving it truly hideous! I recently discovered while using the Samsung Internet browser that its dark mode (or perhaps the phone's dark mode) turned the solid grey background of the page black! And since all the graphics use that same shade of grey to give everything a smooth, uniform appearance, the absence of the grey background makes all the images appear like grey rectangles stuck to a black wall! Ghastly!

The image on the left is how the site should appear!

I am myself fond of dark mode, and switch it on whenever it's offered, so I can't really complain. But at the same time, I'm embarrassed to have anyone see the page so hideously presented! I'd revamp the entire site, switch everything to a black background setting were I not worried some other browser on some other device might mess it up some other way! So, for now, I'm leaving things as they are. But I am also leaving this little note as a disclaimer, for anyone who is viewing this site as it was not meant to be viewed!
